The School

The Harvard Business School (HBS) was founded in 1908. The HBS campus can be found in Boston, Massachusetts and became located across the Charles River from Harvard’s main campus in Cambridge in 1927. As creator of one of the world’s first MBA programs, HBS first introduced its signature case method of learning in the 1920s. Currently, HBS has five research centers including the California Research Center in Palo Alto, the Asia-Pacific Research Center in Hong Kong, the Latin America Research Center in Buenos Aires, the Japan Research Office in Tokyo, and the Europe Research Center in Paris.

Statistics

HBS has 1,800 students enrolled in its MBA program, 7,088 students enrolled in Executive Education, and 91 students enrolled in its doctoral program. HBS has a faculty of 207 and a staff of 1,066. HBS has over 65,000 living alumni with 38,214 of these alumni being graduates of the MBA program. HBS’s research budget totals approximately $70 million while the campus includes 33 buildings that span some 40 acres.

Admissions

To be enrolled in the Harvard School of Business, prospective students must show that they are among the elite. Prospective students must provide answers to essay questions, a current resume, three recommendation submitted via the internet, transcripts from all institutions previously attended, and HBS Community Standards Statement, a statement of application integrity, GMAT scores, and TOEFL scores or IELTS scores if available. Prospective students are invited by the Admissions Board to a face-to-face interview.

Spangler Center

The Spangler is a 121,050 square foot campus center that was designed by Robert A.M. Stern. The center plays host to 29 project rooms that contain whiteboards and have internet connectivity. A local area network is built in while a 350 room auditorium allows students and faculty to view large presentations.

Baker Library

Named after New York banker George F. Baker, the Baker Library is home to over 500,000 volumes and 7,000 periodicals that pertain to business.

Shad Hall

Shad Hall is HBS’s fitness center with features such as an indoor elevated walking/ jogging track, three basketball courts, racquetball and squash courts, four outdoor tennis courts and three gymnasium courts, table-tennis tables, an indoor golf net, two aerobics studios, and a 4,000 square-foot fitness equipment area.
